Lesson Number One

Right, I said I would write down some of the lessons I have learned in life - in order to preserve the wisdom gained, so here goes. These are in no particular order:

Bitching

Don't invest energy in hating. Don't busy your head with bad thoughts about other people. Don't spend time bitching about other people's flaws. It is poisonous. You may think bitching is venting but it isn't, it's pouring fuel on the fire and often ends up magnifying people's flaws until you can't see the good in people any more and suddenly everyone seems bugs you. You become attuned to seeing the negative in people.

If someone is doing something that really bothers and you find yourself eaten up with irritation, try to find a better way of dealing with it. Attempt to put yourself in their shoes and try to develop some tolerance or understanding, if it's appropriate try to tackle it with the person in a tactful manner - but if you cannot get past it, then distance yourself from that person as much as possible. But do not waste time or energy dwelling on what they do or obsessing about them.

And absolutely do not bitch about them behind their back - or try to recruit others into your campaign to justify your own feelings. In pointing out someone else's flaws you are saying far more about yourself than you are about them - that you are two faced, perhaps insecure or jealous, unkind, judgemental. It's a graceless, ugly trait. When you point the finger at someone, three more point back at you.
